OffDorm

Rent isn't the price.

OffDorm shows student housing with the true monthly cost: rent, utilities, and required fees, plus the walk to campus.

Search 85+ US campuses. Every campus shows clearly labeled sample listings until real ones arrive.

Budget check

A common guideline is to spend about 30% of your monthly income on housing. Enter yours to see what that works out to.

Everything you have for living costs each month: work, family help, aid. This stays in your browser. We don't save it.

A rule of thumb, not financial advice. Your real budget depends on your other costs.

Before you sign: ask these

Costs marked OffDorm estimate mean the landlord didn't give a number, so we estimated it from typical local costs. Estimates are averages, not quotes.

  1. What did utilities cost last summer and last winter?

Bills change with the seasons. Ask for real numbers, not a guess.

  2. Are there any monthly fees besides rent?

Amenity, tech, valet trash, and parking fees add up.

  3. What's due at move-in?

Deposit, application fee, and sometimes first and last month's rent.

  4. Is renters insurance required?

It's usually cheap, but it's another monthly cost.

  5. How long is the lease, and can I sublease?

Matters if you leave for summer or study abroad.
