Privacy policy

OffDorm (“we”) is run by [YOUR NAME OR BUSINESS NAME]. This policy explains what information we collect when you use OffDorm and what we do with it. We try to collect as little as possible.
What we collect today
- Your budget stays on your device. The budget check works entirely in your browser. Your income is never sent to us or saved.
- Saved listings and your school stay on your device. When you save a listing or pick a school, it is stored in your browser's local storage. We can't see it. Clearing your browser data deletes it.
- Basic server logs. Our hosting provider, Vercel, automatically records technical details such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, to run and protect the site.
- Emails you send us. If you email us, we keep your email address and message so we can reply.
If you message a landlord (students)
- When you use “Contact landlord” to send a message, we email your name, email address, and message to that listing's landlord so they can reply to you directly. After that, the landlord has your email address, and their own privacy practices apply.
- We don't store your message or name. We keep only your email address, which listing you messaged, and when, for up to 12 months. We use this to show landlords how many students contacted them and to stop spam.
- Messages are sent through our email provider, Resend, which keeps delivery records for a limited time.
If you list a property (landlords)
- Account: your email address, used only to sign you in with an emailed link and to contact you about your listings. A sign-in cookie keeps you signed in.
- Listing details and photos you submit. Once we approve a listing, its details and photos are public on OffDorm.
- Contact details (name, email, phone). Your email is never shown on the site; we use it to forward students' messages to you. Your name and phone, if you give one, are shown to a student only when that student taps “Contact landlord” on an approved listing. We count how many messages each listing receives and show you that number.
- This information is stored with our database provider, Supabase, in the United States. You can ask us to delete your account and listings at any time.
Leasing company directory
For some campuses we list leasing companies that rent to students, using public business information only: the company's name, its type, and a link to its own website. We don't list private individuals or copy photos, prices, or personal contact details. A company can claim its entry or ask us to remove it at any time by emailing hello@offdorm.com, and we remove it promptly.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your personal information.
- We don't use advertising trackers.
- We don't load fonts or scripts from Google or other third parties when you visit.
Coming later
We plan to add visitor statistics and an email newsletter. We will update this policy to explain exactly what each one collects before it goes live.
Children
OffDorm is meant for college students and landlords. It is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us what information we have about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@offdorm.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state law. [LAWYER: confirm which state privacy laws apply.]
Changes
